An initiative begun in 2015 by Winemag.co.za, wine was the sole focus, to begin with, before beer was added in 2018 – many a winemaker said, “You can’t make good wine without good beer.” This year, there were 50 wine and 26 beer entries.

The big winners were: Lubanzi “Orange Is” 2022 by Pr$dnt Honey, which won the Grand Prix in Wine, and Mad Giant Extra Fresh Lager by Haumann & Smal Design Studio in Beer.

There were also two entries in Wine that won gold, namely Orpheus & The Raven Eternal 8 2022, as well as Orpheus & The Raven – Wines in a Series by Bravo Design.

In Beer, Bomb Squad Lager by Janneman won gold.

The People’s Choice, meanwhile, is determined by public vote conducted online. In Wine, this went to Cloudskraal Nieu Sauvignon Blanc 2023 by Studio Sebastian, and in Beer, to Bomb Squad Lager.
